Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of the different types of guns, ammo, history, and shooting sports that this niche corner of the industry entails. A couple of years back I had the extremely rare opportunity to shoot one of my “grail guns” the American-180 .22LR submachine gun. This is a firearm I’ve been fascinated with for a long time, and it’s also one that’s always generated a lot of discussion in the firearm world for its extremely narrow focus on marketing directly to police agencies. Wouldn’t this relatively inexpensive, lightweight, small-caliber, machine gun, make the perfect weapon for the American soldier? Today we’re going to go through a bit of that discussion and take a look at both sides of the argument to see why perhaps the American-180 and other rimfire submachine guns like it just might not ever make practical sense on the battlefield.

Last week we took a look at the new North American Arms Sentinel swing-out pocket revolver. So far I have to say I am pretty impressed with the tiny little revolver. While the recoil is pretty stout, the shooting experience overall is enjoyable and I’m looking forward to sharing my full review with you guys shortly right here on The Rimfire Report. This week I wanted to get back into our ongoing series of ammunition tests by going back to a classic - CCI Standard Velocity 40-grain. I put the tried and true CCI Standard through the same set of tests I’ve been putting all of the other ammunition through, in the hopes it might provide an anchor point for us to compare CCI’s other offerings to. What does boring, plain ole CCI Standard 40 grain bring to the table? Let’s find out!

Thanks for joining us on TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, where we explore all things relating to revolvers. This week, we’re moving forward on our Revolver Cartridge Spotlight series with .22 Caliber Revolvers. We’ll take a look at the seven .22 caliber cartridges, their specifications, and some notable examples of revolvers chambered for them. In the .17 Caliber Revolver edition, I essentially covered all of the revolvers ever chambered for them, but as you can imagine, that won’t be happening for this .22 Caliber Revolvers spotlight. Let’s dig in.

FN America has a new .22 LR pistol, the 502 MRD. It takes the existing 502 and adds an optics-ready slide. Much like the original, it features a 10-round capacity and a single-action-only hammer.

Winchester Ammunition had a few new ammunition options available at Industry Day At The Range 2023.

I love an AR-15 with a carry handle. This love started early, with my first gun, the Armi Jager AP-15. It is mostly forgotten today, but it was one of the most realistic .22LR copies of the AR-15 in its day. Let’s take a look at what this rifle is and whether it is worth owning today.

Colt unveiled a new .22LR target variant of the King Cobra at NRAAM 2022.  Available in both 6″ and 4″ barrel configurations, the new King Cobra Target is where rimfire meets class.  I had a chance to sit down with Colt at NRAAM 2022 to go over the details of the new King Cobra.

Winchester Ammunition had several new varieties available at Shot Show 2022 Industry Range Day. The USA Ready Defense 9mm +P 124-grain load was present in quantity. The HEX-VENT polymer insert aids in expansion by “channeling material flow” as it passes through the target. Winchester’s promotional materials advertise over 12″ of penetration and 95% weight retention. Several blocks of ballistic gel were on hand and seemed to back up those penetration claims.

We all love a big boom. The thump of a .308 into your shoulder and the smack of a 175-grain chunk of metal on a steel target are thrilling. Sometimes, though, a large caliber is too much for the job. Small, swift, and effective, the .22 LR cartridge is a classic for a reason. Though it was designed in 1884, the effectiveness of the caliber for varmint control, teaching new shooters, and all-around fun is unmatched. I have a small game hunt coming up, so I picked up a Ruger American Rimfire in that favorite American caliber, the .22 Long Rifle.

Ammo prices. Am I right? So, what to do? Many shooters have turned to the old, trusty cost-saver, .22 Long Rifle. This, mixed with the increasing popularity of precision rifle competition, means we need optics. Hawke Optics is happy to oblige, and have added three new rimfire scopes to the Vantage 30 WA line.

At SHOT Show 2020,  Arms of America announced that they will start importing FB Radom Mini Beryl pistols chambered in .223 Remington / 5.56x45mm NATO and .22LR. Let’s take a closer look.
