The world continues to seemingly become infatuated with the modern lever action rifle. Some may call them tactical lever actions. Perhaps the actual difference is the number of holes and M-LOK slots one has over the other. Regardless as Rossi continues to expand its lineup of excellent products they have answered the call for a modern lever action 30-30 with the R95 Triple Black 30-30. Heritage Manufacturing has jumped into the pistol-caliber lever-action game. The new Heritage 92 lever-actions follow a very familiar design, the classic Model 1892. The line launches with immediate introduction of 12 new models covering a wide range of shooting situations.

James Reeves is at IWA 2024 talking to the HugTek reps about their new tactical lever gun. It’s a surprisingly solid lever action that’s good-looking and modular, with plenty of M-LOK, places to mount accessories on the stock and handguard, and even interchangeable furniture. Henry Repeating Arms has a new series of commemorative rifles for the 100th anniversary of the US Border Patrol. Both the centerfire Big Boy and rimfire Golden Boy are available, but only for current or prior Border Patrol agents or Customs and Border Protection employees. A portion of the sale of each gun will go to support the Border Patrol Museum.

Davide Pedersoli has announced the expansion of its Droptine rifle lineup with a wood-and-blued-steel version set to debut this year at SHOT 2024. This iteration follows the rifle’s introduction in 2023, which featured a composite stock and a modernized look. The latest model takes a step back in terms of aesthetics, opting for a more traditional look while maintaining the updated features that mark its recent evolution.

Cimarron has recently announced the release of their new 1894 Trapper rifle, which emerges as a nod to the traditional lever-action firearm design. This latest offering by Cimarron avoids modern alterations such as cross-bolt or tang safeties, rebounding hammers, and angle-eject features that are commonly found in contemporary lever-action rifles. It also comes with semi-buckhorn iron sights, and notably, the receiver is not designed to be drilled and tapped, further cementing its vintage appeal.

SHOT Show 2024 has been the year of the lever action, and Midwest Industries arrived at the show with new accessories for all of them. Hop stopped by to check out the new stock accessories, and play catch up on the lever action handguards and optics rails Midwest has been making for a while. Midwest Industries lever action products include stocks, handguards, and optic rail mounts for several brands and patterns of lever action rifles, all of which can be installed without permanently altering the rifle.

At the SHOT Show 2024, attendees observed Turkish manufacturer Derya’s latest foray into the realm of personal defense and sport shooting with the display of their new .22LR firearm, based on the design of the Derya ZY9 SBR. This particular model has garnered attention largely due to its use of Glock-pattern magazines.

At SHOT Show 2024, Michigan-based Silver Creek Firearms introduced a fresh take on the lever-action rifle. The new design, titled the 4210 Lever Action, is scheduled for release later this summer.

At SHOT Show 2024, Winchester Arms has introduced two new models to their firearm lineup: the Winchester Ranger, a lever-action rimfire rifle chambered in .22LR, and a new range of SX4 Defender shotguns, designed for the tactical market. In a bold move to push boundaries further, Rossi, a renowned firearms manufacturer, has unveiled its latest firearm – the R95 lever action rifle in .45-70 Government. Smith & Wesson, a renowned name in the firearms industry, is once again making waves with their recent launch of the Model 1854 Lever Action rifle. This release marks a new evolution for Smith & Wesson, fusing the cherished nostalgia of their traditional designs with contemporary performance capabilities.

Attending the SHOT Show 2024, Bond Arms unveiled updates to two of its firearms. The first is an updated version of their LVRB tactical lever-action rifle, and the second is a new variant of their Cyclops big-bore derringer.

In a remarkable expansion of their product line, Henry, the famous firearms manufacturer, has unveiled a path-breaking offering, the Lever Action Supreme, an innovative lever-action rifle that is compatible with AR-pattern magazines. Luke C is at SHOT Show 2024 with Smith & Wesson to announce the introduction of their first modern lever action – the Model 1854 chambered in 44 Magnum. The Model 1854 is going to be released standard with a synthetic stock, flat-faced single-action trigger, big lever loop, and of course fun accessories like an extended hammer spur, and a 4-inch section of Picatinny rail. Smith & Wesson is also offering a much more period-correct looking Model 1854 featuring a glossy DLC blued finish, and a hybrid wood stock. If you’re a fudd at heart, but you’re still feverish for a rifle with tactical features… sort of… perhaps the new Rossi R95 Triple Black is the prescription you need. This new blacked-out lever-action has just hit the market along with a laminate-stocked counterpart for those who are anti-tacticool.

Good news, cowboy action shootists – the Marlin 1894 is back on the market in .357 Magnum chambering. If you’ve been paying attention, you should remember the Marlin 1894 returned to the market last July, after months out of production when previous brand owner Remington went bust. Now, Ruger is building these rifles in North Carolina, but upon their reintroduction, they were only available in .44 Magnum.

The “tacticalization” of lever-action rifles continues, with the new Marlin Dark Series hitting the market. The new Dark Series will have three rifles based on the three lever-actions sold under the Marlin name. At this point, the Model 1895 in .45-70 Government is the only example currently available, but Dark Series rifles based on the Model 1894 in .44 Magnum are coming, along with a model based on the Model 336 in .30-30.

Georgia-based Heritage Manufacturing have announced a new series of .22LR lever-action rifles – the Settler family. The range includes the ‘Settler’ full-length 20-inch barrel rifle (which has a 15-round tube magazine), a ‘Compact’ rifle with a 16.5-inch barrel (and a tube magazine that holds 13 rounds) and the ‘Settler Mares Leg’ which has a 12.5-inch barrel and a 10 round magazine.

The Henry Big Boy lever action rifle is a model that has deservedly gained a pretty positive reputation for not just being reliable, accurate, and durable, but also just plain fun to shoot. Henry makes these classic lever actions available in nearly all of the common straight-walled cartridges ranging from .357 Magnum all the way up to .44 Magnum. What is perhaps best about the Henry Big Boy series of lever guns is simply their value. Most of these lever guns can be had for about $900 or less and you’re getting an amazing combination of quality construction and reliability in a proven platform. However, these lever actions are quite limited when it comes to one thing – optics. Other more modern lever guns have started to incorporate integrated or factory-installed Picatinny rails for use with riflescopes, red dots, and sometimes even Laser IR devices for night vision hunting. Luckily, XS Sights sells a great DIY solution for replacing the factory iron sights on a Herny Big Boy rifle. Their functional and sleek-looking Lever Rail and Ghost Ring sights still preserve iron sight capability while adding some much-needed versatility to a dated platform.

Shortly after  Rossi’s release of the R95 30-30 lever action rifle, Midwest Industries introduced two modernization parts for this new lever gun: an M-LOK handguard and an Extended Sight System. The former is an open-top aluminum handguard with multiple M-LOK slots and a sling swivel stud. The Extended Sight System consists of a similar M-LOK handguard with a top Picatinny rail that extends back over the receiver and a set of iron sights. Rossi surprised a lot of firearm owners when they announced at SHOT Show 2023 that they were back and with a vengeance (my words, not Rossi’s) by debuting new revolvers that looked reminiscent of something from Smith & Wesson and/or Dan Wesson from years past.
