[SHOT 2024] Smith & Wesson's FIRST Lever Action – The Model 1854 44 MAG
Luke C is at SHOT Show 2024 with Smith & Wesson to announce the introduction of their first modern lever action – the Model 1854 chambered in 44 Magnum. The Model 1854 is going to be released standard with a synthetic stock, flat-faced single-action trigger, big lever loop, and of course fun accessories like an extended hammer spur, and a 4-inch section of Picatinny rail. Smith & Wesson is also offering a much more period-correct looking Model 1854 featuring a glossy DLC blued finish, and a hybrid wood stock. Today Cory tells us all about the new Smith & Wesson Model 1854, and what you can expect going forward from the company’s resurrected venture into the lever action world.

Yawn. Besides the absolutely asinine marketing campaign and model name, this does nothing over the existing Henry options. Who will S&W copy next?
I'm glad that someone is making a Marlin 336 in .44 Mag again, but I didn't expect it to be a Henry Big Boy X-Model hybrid. It's fine, it's fine; there's nothing wrong with it, but I would have made the trigger attached to the lever, ala BLR, to avoid stabbing your trigger finger with the trigger when you cycle the action quickly. Also, I would have made sure the loading gate was made from aluminum, like Ranger Point Precision makes for the Marlins (which this is seriously a copy of; how are they not getting sued?) If you're going to go for a conventional/retro-tactical format, could you at least make sure it is a take-down design, or ultra-light, or something? Could S&W not have been the company to bring back the slide-action .44 mag? Seriously Henry offered a better version of this rifle five years ago.
