POTD: Spotter ready? Shooter ready? Steyr Mannlicher SSG M1

In the Spring of 2018, TFB reported about the new modular Steyr Mannlicher SSG M1 rifle. Today we have two good-looking photos of it in action, with the spotter sitting beside the shooter. The riflescope is made by Steiner Optics.

The SSG M1 is available in .338 Lapua Magnum, .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor – with interchangeability of course. The trigger is a 2-stage adjustable and the magazine is fit for 10 rounds. The Austrian Bundesheer ordered 120 medium-range sniper rifles and the Special Forces (Austrian Jagdkommando) received theirs first.

The images and caption below are from Steyr Arms USA Facebook page:

Spotter ready. Shooter ready. The SSG M1 is a true configurable sniper rifle that can meet the most demanding mission requirements.

The SSG M1 is also available in black and green. Which one would you prefer?

You can find Steyr Mannlicher LEAF here, with a lot of information available.

@iksnilol Gotcha, you were saying something about 200 and now I think you meant range in meters or something. Yeah I have no desire to try and make it into a lightweight gun but I will use it for stationary medium game hunting while I try to romantically imagine myself being in the arctic circle rather than surrounded by a county full of illiterate rednecks with pleb taste in rifles.

The 6.5AA you can shoot 6.5x55 through, it fireforms in the process and I'm immensely looking forward to that process, just running a case of 6.5 through it to break in the barrel and make some brass. It's like a 30° Ackley but the case angles are PPC/Creedmoor based. The 7 SAW on the other hand is something you can't fire 7mm-08 through, gotta resize fresh Palma brass to neck it down and push the shoulder.

I wouldn't have bought the SSG if it wasn't an STR at heart, but man, in its current clothing it's got a look only its mother could love. The GRS on the other hand is gonna be nifty (I was able to source that bit already) - I don't think it will be my last GRS. That's about as far as I'm gonna take this rifle. Chassis, lightweight or otherwise will be something for something else. I have friends who pour thousands of dollars into their carbon fiber builds and it's too easy just to borrow one. But I'm gonna be the hipster with an STR!

What's the AR next to the sniper? A Steyr product?
