Folders are great to keep as everyday carry knives due to their discreet nature and convenient size. However, for those that have jobs that require heavier duty knives or need something to take with them out in the field, a fixed blade is always the way to go. SOG Knives has just introduced their new Recondo FX fixed blade knife offered in both a straight edge and a partially serrated configuration.

The Recondo FX is designed as a no-nonsense knife that covers any field application. With a 4.6-inch blade length and overall length of 9.6 inches, the Recondo FX is sized to tackle a broad range of cutting and slicing tasks with its clip point profile and available partial serrations. Weighing 5.3 ounces, the blade is made from rugged cryo-treated 440C steel, providing the hardness and strength needed in a tactical-oriented knife. The black titanium nitride finish boosts corrosion resistance and reduces friction for smoother cuts.

Cryo Treated 440C steel is well known for its superior edge retention capabilities and the treatment is fast becoming a “standard” across the board for knives made from 440C and ATS34 steels. The Recondo FX’s handle is equally as durable and is made from GRN/TPU making it virtually indestructible. The blade is ergonomically shaped to give you better control and retention while sawing, stabbing, or slicing, and the textured sides as well as the jimping help to keep the blade in your hand even during wet and slippery conditions.

@Sgt. Stedenko Agree. However, for its use I don't think it matters that much, anything tougher than M390, reaches 56 HRC and is stainless will work.

I got a Tops/Al Mar about this size for a lot less, seems way more heavy duty. I carry it all the time on my belt.
