[SHOT 2022] Foxtrot Mike Products HYBRID 9mm PCC (1)

During the SHOT Show 2022, Foxtrot Mike Products (FM Products) has introduced a new 9mm PCC called Hybrid. The feature that jumps out immediately and sets this pistol caliber carbine apart from the competition is the design of its polymer lower receiver. Particularly, the design of the pistol grip which allows housing a spare magazine (yes, Glock magazine).

FM Products @ TFB:

The magazine inside the grip is released via a pistol-style thumb button release. Reloading using the magazine from the pistol grip is a little bit unusual, but one can become pretty fast even after trying it just a couple of times.

The polymer lower receiver of FM Products Hybrid PCC has an aluminum insert in the buffer tube attachment area for rigidity. The charging handle is located on the handguard and is reversible. The safety selector and both magazine releases are ambidextrous.

Note the aluminum insert with the buffer tube threads
Why would you need to store a spare magazine on the gun itself? If for whatever reason you can’t or don’t want to have loaded magazines separate from the gun, and if you don’t want to use a drum or coupled mags to keep the gun slim, this solution will allow you storing quite a firepower on the weapon itself without increasing its overall thickness. Or if you need some sort of special ammunition readily available yet separate from magazines with your primary ammo, then the pistol grip storage can be useful. Let us know in the comments section for what applications and in what scenarios do you think this feature will come in handy.

A few years back FM had a poly lower, I had one and the only issue I encountered was it had a ambi bolt release and the mechanism for it would come out if you used the "ambi" part of it -it also had the grip/mag storage which worked quite well- FM replaced it with a aluminum lower. Without the ambi bolt release I am thinking they have a winner here. While people complain about polymer there are polymers that can take stresses better than metals. Glocks came out 40 years ago polymer technology has changed a lot since then

The only new part about this is the "hybrid", i.e. the aluminum inserts. The lower itself has been around for several years now with this exact mag-in-the-grip arrangement.
